Die kanadische Polit-Punk/Melodic Hardcore-Band Propagandhi ist auf der Suche nach einem neuen Label, das ihr nächstes Album veröffentlicht. Die Band schreibt dazu:
"Don’t make us do it ourselves. We’ve all seen what happens when we’re left in charge of things. I know, the industry is in a tailspin and the relevance of the label-band relationship is more in question than it ever has been, but there are still some things a band like us needs to make it work smoothly.
We’ve had enthusiastic, but vague inquiries from a few labels and we really appreciate that. But we’re not looking for vague. We’re not looking for nebulous “what do you guys want?” inquiries. We’re looking for a strong, specific, enthusiastic offer that lays out in detail what your organization will do for us in exchange for releasing what will certainly be our wildest record yet.
Let’s do this: pretend we’re Brian Burke. Then pretend our next record is Tomas Kaberle. Now pretend you are a middling western conference squad whose top puck-moving defenceman has just suffered a torn MCL while you are 3 points out of a playoff spot with 6 games remaining in the regular season and your fanbase is clamoring for change if you don’t make it to at least the conference finals. Pretend Kaberle (our next record) is willing to sign a 4 year contract extension at only 2 million per, meaning that if someone doesn’t blow Burke’s (our) doors off with a blockbuster offer, he (us), is not going anywhere, and you’ll be hitting the links this spring instead of hoisting The Cup, surrounded by naked ladies/men. Das junge Bielefelder Szenelabel NOIZGATE Records und der etablierte Kölner
Musikvertrieb ROUGH TRADE Distribution vereinbaren eine weltweite Zusammenarbeit.
Ab 2011 sorgt ROUGH TRADE dafür, dass die neuen Veröffentlichungen von
NOIZGATE bei Musikhändlern vor Ort in den Regalen stehen. Für das nächste
Jahr stehen etwa 6-8 Neuerscheinungen auf dem Programm, darunter die neuen Alben
der Berliner Deathcore-Pioniere von „PLACENTA“ und der Münsteraner
Metal-Geheimwaffe „Disposed to Mirth“.
Unterdessen wird die konkrete Zusammenarbeit der beiden Unternehmen mit dem neuen
Album der angesagten Indietronic-Band "INFIGHT" begonnen. Die vier Freiburger
sind aktuell noch bis Ende Oktober auf ihrer "DISCOLAND Tour" in Deutschland
unterwegs und gehen danach ins Studio. Mit dem Release der Platte ist in der ersten
April-Hälfte 2011 zu rechnen.

Social Distortion werden am 18.01.2011 ihre neue Platte Hard times and nursery rhymes" bei Epitaph Records veröfentlichen. Label und Band schreiben dazu:
"Rock ‘n’ roll icons Social Distortion have officially announced the release of their long awaited, highly anticipated new studio album, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, which is set for January 18. A follow-up to their acclaimed album Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes is the band’s seventh studio album and first release in over six years. Fans are invited to download the first single, “Machine Gun Blues,” via iTunes on November 16.
Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes builds on singer Mike Ness’ twin footings, one in the haunted American landscapes of Hank Williams and the other in the raw swagger of Exile-era Rolling Stones. While these twin pillars have always been behind Social Distortion’s anthemic songs, on Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes they come roaring to the fore, in one of the hardest rocking, most soulful, albums of Ness’ career.
After years of working with various producers in the studio, Mike Ness took on the duty for the first time with their new album. The band entered a Burbank studio in early 2010 where they recorded for the next several months in between spring and summer tour dates which included Lollapalooza and Outside Lands. In early October the band wrapped up recording before heading out for their fall US tour.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” Ness explains. “I love being on that side of the board. Even though I’ve co-produced all of our records, I always was there for everything. It just came to a point where I was like ‘I think I want to try this, I want to do this ourselves.’ By being at the helm this time allowed so much more focus for me to the fine details of every aspect of it, whether it was performances, or tones, or arrangements, backing vocals….everything.”
Self-produced and teamed with legendary punk rock label Epitaph Records, Social Distortion maintain the rebellious credibility that made them a household-name decades ago with the release of their latest album Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes.
Social Distortion gets straight to business on Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes with the grooving instrumental intro “Road Zombie,” setting the album’s tone before segueing into what’s possibly one of the band’s finest written songs to date, “California (Hustle and Flow),” which gives nod to the Stones with backing gospel singers, greasy solos and enough attitude to redline a ’40 Merc.
“California (Hustle and Flow) was an early idea last year,” says Ness. “It started out as pretty much a roots rocker, ended up morphing into kind of a tribute to the Stones. Also if you listen to the opening line it’s third person, and it’s talking about some kid with an attitude and dyed jet black hair and motorcycle boots and running around like he don’t care. It basically chronicles my career in music. Just how it started out, how rock n roll has been good to me…And I’d like to think I’ve been good to rock ‘n’ roll ya know.”
Fans will find familiarity in tracks like “Gimme the Sweet and Lowdown” and “Diamond In The Rough,” which combine the band’s inimitable vintage sound with their contemporary vision.
“(“Diamond In The Rough”) that one is pretty autobiographical….so many faults, yet so little time. What are you gonna do?… Better write a song.”
Without warning Social Distortion kicks the album into overdrive with their first single, “Machine Gun Blues,” a sneering modern day Bonnie & Clyde outlaw anthem which encompasses the album’s rebellious attitude. The band only takes a few moments on the album to slow things down and like Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll’s “Footprints on My Ceiling” the band momentarily dial it back for the gentile biker bar dance number “Bakersfield,” which flows gracefully into the modern rocker “Far Side of Nowhere.” Ness pays tribute to his idol Hank Williams with a dark rockin cover of “Alone and Forsaken,” which gives him a chance to slow things down again for what’s sure to be a fan favorite live song “Writing on the Wall.” Closing out the album, Social Distortion cranks it all the way to 11 with “Can’t Take It With You” and “Still Alive.”
Bruce Springsteen has “been a fan of Social Distortion for a long long time,” Guitar World has ranked Mike Ness as one of the coolest guitarists of all time and now with the release of Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, Social Distortion has further cemented themselves as one of the great rock bands of all time.

Trivium: Ab Dezember wieder im Studio

Die vier Jungs aus Florida werden ab dem 1. Dezember mit den Aufnahmen ihres neuen Albums beginnen, welches vorraussichtlich im Frühjahr 2011 erscheinen wird. Das ganze findet in den Audiohammer Studios in Sanford/Florida statt und wird in Sachen Produktion und Abmischung von Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, FEAR FACTORY, SLIPKNOT), sowie Martin "Ginge" Ford betreut. In einem Interview vom 18. Juli diesen Jahres hatte TRIVIUM Gitarrist Corey Beauilieu schon einiges über das neue Album, den Nachfolger von "Shogun" (2008), zu sagen, aber lest selbst:
"We got done [touring in support of 'Shogun'] at the end of March [2010], and we weren't planning on the [new] record coming out until February or March of next year, so we had the rest of the year to just work on it. And it's worked out really good for us - we didn't feel rushed and we were able to take the time to make sure everything is right." Er fügte hinzu: "We did more work on this record than we've done on any other record. The stuff is sounding really awesome and we're having a lot of fun doing this."
Über den neuen Drummer Nick Augusto sagte Beaulieu folgendes: "I think he fits more of our writing style, 'cause we play a lot of fast, heavier stuff and his drumming is kind of really on the heavier, aggressive side, so, really, just writing the TRIVIUM songs we [normally] do it, his drumming style adds a lot of energy and intensity to the music - he adds a lot of really cool, creative stuff that makes it really interesting and brings the music to the next level. And just working with him, everything is moving pretty fast. He's like a sponge, like the rest of us - he can grasp new songs really fast. If we have a new song, we can start jamming it really quick and kind of move forward and get to the point where we can just focus on the details of the song instead of just trying to get the song down in the first place. It's really helping propel the songwriting to another level where we can move along quicker and get a lot more work done in a shorter amount of time."
"When people actually get a chance to hear the record, I think they'll be pretty impressed with what's going on, 'cause he's doing some really cool stuff and adding a new flavor to what we do and giving it a new twist. Compared to the last couple of records, the intensity and the energy has really gone up a lot."
Gitarrenriffs waren unter anderem natürlich auch ein Thema: "We've been concentrating more on [making] more to-the-point, catchier songs without going off too much - there's no seven- or eight-minute songs on this one. There's a lot of really cool riffs and a lot of really cool parts, and, obviously, there's guitar solos all over the place. It doesn't sound like 'Shogun', but it sounds like TRIVIUM. It's a got a different feel than 'Shogun' - it's a lot more in your face and heavier and faster. It kind of balances out everything - we've got four or five songs that are all screaming, we've got a couple of songs that are all singing, and huge songs that are kind of a mix - kind of 'Acendancy' [2005] kind of vocal style, [with both] screaming and singing, so there's a good variety, which makes it really interesting to listen to, because each song has its own thing going on, so they all stand out really well and fit together, too. It's got a good balance of everything, but the energy and the intensity is just a lot more up there. I guess if you compare it to anything as far as being aggressive, it's probably more towards 'Ascendancy' than anything else."

HELLYEAH, the US outfit featuring members of Pantera, Mudvayne & Damageplan, will be joining the Stone Sour / Avenged Sevenfold European and UK tour in October and November. The 10 UK shows are now completely sold out, including two nights at the 5,000-capacity Hammersmith Apollo in London; these shows are part of a full European run that also takes in Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Italy & Denmark, with many of the venues increased in size to support the overwhelming demand.
Following a main-stage appearance at this year’s Download Festival in June, and appearances at Rock AM Ring/Im Park in Germany the HY crew released their second studio album, ‘Stampede’, via Spinefarm Records UK – 11 tracks that walk the middle line between the Southern tones of Skynyrd and the party spirit of prime-time Van Halen.

Angeheizt wird das Paket von BREED77, die gerade mit ihrem Album "Insects" ganz weit oben angreifen. Auch 36CRAZYFISTS aus Alaska haben mit ihrem soeben veröffentlichten Album "Collisions and Castaways" einen weiteren Höhepunkt ihrer Karriere gesetzt. Die Roadrunner Records-Labelmates von DEVILDRIVER runden das Paket ab und wer diese Band bereits live gesehen hat, weiß was dies bedeutet. Boy sets fire Reunion-Show im Dezember in Berlin

Wie auf der MySpace-Seite von Telekom Extreme Playgrounds zu lesen ist, werden Boy sets fire am 05.12.2010 im Berliner Velodrom ihre Ruinion-Show spielen. Fühlt sich in diesem Zusammenhang für mich irgendwie komisch an. Mal sehen, ob sie sonst auch noch Shows spielen werden und was die Zukunft bringen wird. Boy sets fire sagen dazu:
"We were never a normal band. We never did the right things. We never looked cool. We did everything exactly the way we wanted. Trends weren’t important. Being hip wasn’t important. There were only two things that were important and sancrosanct; the friendship between the five members of this band, and people who we touched with our music.
We were a band for over a decade. We decided that we wanted to try different things with our lives. So we stopped playing music together. It wasn’t Noel/Liam Gallagher ugly; we parted as friends and we generally see or talk to each other all the time.
I think we underestimated how much we would miss it. The communion, the intensity, the genuine outpouring of emotion- it just doesn’t exist for us without BoySetsFire.
So we are going to start playing together again.
All we know now is that BoySetsFire is playing in Berlin on December 5, 2010.

Citizen Arrest Reunion-Show im Dezember in New York

Die New York City Hardcore-Legende Citzen Arrest wird im Dezember eine Reunion-Show in ihrer Heimatstadt spielen und das so ziemlich in Originalbesetzung. Das Ox-Fanzine schreibt dazu:
"Die zuletzt Ende der 80er, Anfang der 90er Jahre aktiven New Yorker Hardcoreler CITIZENS ARREST kündigten für Mitte Dezember eine Reunion-Show an. Bei der für den 17.12.2010 in der New Yorker Knitting Factory stattfindenden Show wird das original Line-up auf der Bühne stehen, welches zu jenem der Jahre 88-90 geringfügige Postenwechsel zu verzeichnen hat. Das italienische Hardcore/Punk Label Hurry Up Records vermeldet das Signing der Starters, einer Melodic Hardcore/Punk- Band aus Dublin. Das Label schreibt dazu:
"We are very happy to announce a new signing for Hurry Up! Records: the Dublin based 4 piece melodic HC/punk of STARTERS. This band has not been around much time, but in a short while managed to spread their name all over Europe and USA with different deals to release their merch and records on vinyl.
After a first press of the demo that went sold out very quickly, the band is entering the studio to record 4 new tracks, that together with the 4 tracks of the demo will be their debut CD on Hurry Up!

Shouter Björn der belgischen Hardcore-Band Rise and Fall ist vom Rad gestürzt, weshalb die Band die geplanten Shows in Frankreich absagen musste. Die Band schreibt dazu:
"Bjorn just called us...from the hospital. He fell with his bike whilst descending the Mont Ventoux and almost died. This is the reason while we are not playing France. No show or tours are cancelled though. He's a hardman."
Madball trennen sich von ihrem Drummer

Die NYHC-Legende Madball vermeldet die Trennung von Schlagzeuger Jay Weinberg und schreibt Folgendes:
"MADBALL, who are on the road supporting Comeback Kid on the "Through The Noise Tour", have released drummer Jay Weinberg.
Freddy Cricien explains why the band would let go of someone in mid-tour saying, “I'm letting Jay go in Canada because I just feel he doesn't represent this band well on a character level. It would go against my own code of ethics to keep him around. Not saying he's a bad drummer. I won't take that away from him. But the reality is - he has a lot to learn about paying dues, and about life in general. Granted, he is a kid, but I'm not sure that he'll ever be built for this particular lifestyle. I wish him the best of luck, but the MADBALL machine rolls on!”
MADBALL will finish out the tour with a (soon to be announced) replacement drummer. All future band plans, including their upcoming European tour with Sick of It All, and most importantly, the release of Empire on October 12th, remain unaffected and on schedule.

Die kanadische Punkrock/Hardcore Band The Sainte Catherines wird nach ihrer Trennung von Fat Wreck Chords ihr neues Album mit dem Titel "Fire works" am 26.10.2010 via Anchorless Records veröffentlichen. Die Band schreibt dazu:
"The Sainte Catherines present ''Fire Works'' due October 26! Woah. Have you ever been to Montreal? Last time I was there I saw a guy in a frog costume dancing and juggling flaming sticks while a midget clown played a tiny accordion for loonies. That's a TRUE STORY, folks! It's a real scene. The part of the world that's a little bit Canada, a little bit France that hates Canada and is ignored by France is probably the strangest place in the northern hemisphere (except for maybe that church in the Czech Republic that's full of skulls, but hey, I digress...) Yes, the drunken one night stand of Canada and France's oft overlooked contribution to the modern age, French Canada, is actually a hotbed of awesome bearded rabble and iconoclastic weirdos, and no group of scruffy, dog fucking brigands exemplifies Quebec like Montreal's The Sainte Catherines, and guess what, xenophobes! They're now on Anchorless and their new record, 2010's Fire Works is gonna blow some doors off. Just keep reading if you don't believe me. Look, I said these dudes came from a crazy spot, right? Remember the frog guy from paragraph one? Okay, well The Sainte Catherines, not to be outdone, recorded their album in a country chalet, all by themselves with no engineer at all. Now, as we all know, this is either the recipe for disaster or brilliance, and which one do you think I'm gonna say Fire Works is? Come on. I'm writing the bio for fucks sake! Nah, this record takes its cues from the band's early influences like American Steel, the Broadways, Jawbreaker and Fifteen, and strains it through a sieve of 70's rock, like a french canadian wine that will kick your dick off, get you drunk, eat all your poutine and find you hung over in the morning humming the most melodic and positive tunes of the bands storied career. Did I mention that these dudes fought a whole city with Against Me!? Well, I don't like to name drop, so take my word for it or ask them all about it when they come through your town. Yes, expect exhaustive touring from The Sainte Catherines for the Fire Works cycle. They're loved in Europe, Canada and the stinkiest most festering pits in all of the US so get out your mustache, cut your bangs at a weird angle and give me a "Tabarnak!" for The Sainte Catherines. Um...also, they've got funny names and they're not above wearing vests. Did I mention that? Okay. I think we're done here. Good game."

Dream Theater: Drummer Mike Portnoy verlässt die Band

Einer der wohl einflussreichsten Drummer der 90er Prog-Rock Szene und mit Begründer von Dream Theater, Mike Portnoy brauch ein Break und wird die Band verlassen. Er hat über 25 Jahre 150% bei Dream Theater gegeben und war maßgeblich der der zusammen mit Gitarrist Herr John Petrucci den Sound der Band geprägt hat. Mike ist in den Jahren zu einem Drummer geworden an dem viele hoch schauen und sich beeinflussen lassen. Der bei Fans und der Presse beliebter Drummer hat sich in der internationalen Drumszene einen Namen gemacht und hat sich mit seinen Drum DVD's, Büchern und Clinic Drum Tours auch in die Herzen von nicht Dream Theater Fans gespielt und seinen Fokus erweitert.
Lest selber was in der Roadrunner Records Press zum Thema "Dream Theater: Drummer Mike Portnoy verlässt die Band" geschrieben wird. Hier das Statement von Mike Portnoy und im folgenden das der Band.
Mike Portnoy: "I am about to write something I never imagined I'd ever write: After 25 years, I have decided to leave Dream Theater....the band I founded, led and truly loved for a quarter of a century.
To many people this will come as a complete shock, and will also likely be misunderstood by some, but please believe me that it is not a hasty decision...it is something I have struggled with for the last year or so.... After having had such amazing experiences playing with Hail, Transatlantic and Avenged Sevenfold this past year, I have sadly come to the conclusion that I have recently had more fun and better personal relations with these other projects than I have for a while now in Dream Theater...
Please don't misinterpret me, I love the DT guys dearly and have a long history, friendship and bond that runs incredibly deep with them...it's just that I think we are in serious need of a little break... Dream Theater was always my baby...and I nurtured that baby every single day and waking moment of my life since 1985...24/7, 365...never taking time off from DT's never-ending responsibilites (even when the band was "off" between cycles)...working overtime and way beyond the call of duty that most sane people ever would do for a band...
But I've come to the conclusion that the DT machine was starting to burn me out...and I really needed a break from the band in order to save my relationship with the other members and keep my DT spirit hungry and inspired. We have been on an endless write/record/tour cycle for almost 20 years now (of which I have overseen EVERY aspect without a break) and while a few months apart from each other here & there over the years has been much needed and helpful, I honestly hoped the band could simply agree with me to taking a bit of a "hiatus" to recharge our batteries and "save me from ourselves"...
Sadly, in discussing this with the guys, they determined they do not share my feelings and have decided to continue without me rather than take a breather...I even offered to do some occasional work throughout 2011 against my initial wishes, but it was not to be...
While it truly hurts for me to even think of a Dream Theater without Mike Portnoy (hell, my father named the band!!), I do not want to stand in their way...so I have decided to sacrifice myself and simply leave the band so as to not hold them back against their wishes....
Strangely enough, I just read an interview that I recently did that asked me about the future of DT and I talked about "always following your heart and being true to yourself"...sadly I must say that at this particular moment, my heart is not with Dream Theater...and I would simply be "going through the motions", and would honestly NOT be true to myself if I stayed for the sake of obligation without taking the break I felt I needed.
I wish the guys the best and hope the music and legacy we created together is enjoyed by fans for decades to come...I am proud of every album we made, every song we wrote and every show we played.... I'm sorry to all the disappointed DT fans around the world...I really tried to salvage the situation and make it work...I honestly just wanted a break (not a split)...but happiness cannot be forced, it needs to come from within....
You DT fans are the greatest fans in the world and as you all know, I have always busted my ass for you guys and I hope that you will stay with me on my future musical journey, wherever it may lead me....(and as you all know my work ethic, there will surely be no shortage of future MP projects!)

Mike's stature in the band has meant the world to all of us professionally, musically, and personally over the years. There is no dispute: Mike has been a major force within this band.
While it is true that Mike is choosing to pursue other ventures and challenges, we can assure you that Dream Theater will continue to move forward with the same intensity -- and in the same musical tradition -- that you have all helped make so successful, and which is truly gratifying to us.
Fans and friends: File this episode under 'Black Clouds and Silver Linings'. As planned, we begin recording our newest album in January 2010, and we'll follow that with a full-on world tour. "The Spirit Carries On."
All of us in Dream Theater wholeheartedly wish Mike the best on his musical journey. We have had a long and meaningful career together. It is our true hope that he finds all he is looking for, and that he achieves the happiness he deserves.

The Crown spielen spezielle Record Release Show am 1. Oktober in Essen! Da das Deathfest Ultimate in Oberhausen am 2. Oktober abgesagt wurde, haben THE CROWN kurzerhand umgeplant und eine Record Release Show im Turock in Essen aufgesetzt. Alle Metal Maniacs aus dem Umland sollten sich deshalb auf die Socken machen, um die Veröffentlichung von „Doomsday King” angemessen und vor allem zusammen mit der Band zu feiern. Das Way Of Darkness Festival findet statt, allerdings wurde der Slot von THE CROWN einen Tag nach hinten verschoben, also auf den 2. Oktober. The Crown Webseite

Opeth: Live DVD der legendären -Evolution XX: An Opeth Anthology- Tour

Nächste Woche, am 17. September, erscheint OPETH - "In Live Concert At The Royal Albert Hall" , eine Live-DVD zu den 20 Jahre Opeth Jubiläumsshows, die im Frühjahr in ganz ausgewählten Locations Europas und in den Staaten stattgefunden haben. Die DVD bzw. DVDs, es sind 2 Stück, enthalten die komplette Show aus der Royal Albert Hall in London und noch jede Menge Bonusmaterial.
20 Jahre OPETH - dies wurde im Frühjahr mit der einzigartigen "Evolution XX: An Opeth Anthology"-Tour gefeiert.
Als Nachschlag und um den runden Geburtstag noch ein bisschen weiter zu zelebrieren wird die Band Live Bild- und Tonmaterial ihres Jubiläumskonzerts in der legendären Royal Albert Hall in London veröffentlichen.
Das Schätzchen soll den Namen "In Live Concert At The Royal Albert Hall" tragen und voraussichtlich im September diesen Jahres erscheinen.
Innerhalb von 20 Jahren und mit neun Alben haben OPETH eine fast einzigartige Karriere hingelegt und ihr sogenannter „progressively creative spirit" bleibt unerschüttert, was man auf der kommenden DVD ihrer „Evolution XX: An Opeth Anthology"-Tour deutlich sehen kann.
Sechs der einzigartigsten Veranstaltungsorte dieser Welt wurden bereist und davon kann sich der Fan zu Hause vor dem Fernseher bald ein Bild machen.
Der Auftritt in der Royal Albert Hall, welcher am 05. April 2010 aufgezeichnet wurde, beinhaltet zwei Sets.
Das eine besteht aus der kompletten Setlist des im Jahre 2000 erschienenen Albums „Blackwater Park" , womit die Band erste riesige Erfolge feierte. Darüberhinaus werden beim zweiten Set die größten Songs aus allen neun Alben chronologisch abgearbeitet, was insgesamt eine Spieldauer von fast 3h ausmacht! Das Front Cover der Platte ist ein Tribut an Deep Purple's "Concerto For Group And Orchestra", womit sie ihren immer geliebten Prog Rock-Wurzeln huldigen.
Zurückdenkend an das Konzert in London sagt Sänger und Mastermind Mikael Akerfeldt: "Opeth had a magical night playing the Royal Albert Hall. It was a dream come true, and now afterwards, it still feels like a dream. We got it all on film, and this, our third live recording and DVD might be my personal favorite. One couldn't help to think of all the fantastic artists that played there over the years. Looking back at this night of celebration brings me fond memories of our 20th anniversary-this package is the delayed birthday present. Enjoy!"
"In Live Concert At The Royal Albert Hall" wird es in drei verschiedenen Formaten geben:
1) Ein limited Edition Vinyl Box Set, mit folgendem Inhalt:
- Double-DVD Set vom gesamtem Auftritt in der legendären Royal Albert Hall, natürlich mit Bonus Material.
- Vier 180-gramm LP's, auf denen das Konzert nochmal in der Audio-Version zu finden sein wird. Die Vinyl ist in schwarze, gefütterte Hüllen eingepackt, mit exklusivem Artwork. Die Vinyl ist nur in diesem Box Set erhältlich.
- Eine exklusive, nummerierte Lithographie mit Artwork designed von Mikael Åkerfeldt himself und dem langjährigen Opeth-Designer Travis Smith
- Ein 20-seitiges Booklet in LP Größe, welches die Chronik dieses Events in Fotos auf beschichtetem Papier festhält
2) Ein 5-Disc Set, welches aus 2 DVDs und 3 CDs besteht. Darauf wird nicht nur das Konzert visuell finden zu sein, sondern ebenfalls komplett in der Audio-Version.
3) Das dritte Format ist ein Doppel DVD Set, auf dem der komplette Auftritt der Jungs in der legendären Royal Albert Hall zu finden sein wird plus nettes Bonusmaterial.

Defeater sind im Studio

Die Bostoner Hardcore Band Defeater haben sich ins Studio begeben um ihren zweiten Longplayer einzuspielen. Ihr Label Bridge 9 Records schreibt dazu:
"Massachusetts-based Defeater has been making waves in the heavy music scene since their inception in 2007. The band, known for their narrative writing style and avant-garde take on hardcore, began the recording process last week for their second full-length album. This new album (title TBA) will follow the same conceptual format as their prior releases, 2008’s Travels and 2009’s Lost Ground EP, and will be another musically precise album that will redefine the term “forward-thinking music”. Vocalist Derek Archambault said, “While I can’t give up all of the details on the storyline quite yet, let’s just say that this new album will incorporate themes and characters that the listener has been introduced to already, in addition to bringing some new stuff into the mix. The writing process thus far has been very personally gratifying and I can’t wait to have another chapter of Defeater’s story out for the world to hear.”
The band will spend the next month holed up at Getaway Recording Studio in Wakefield, MA, interestingly enough with their guitarist, Jay Maas, at the helm recording/producing. Maas owns and operates that studio, and has recorded bands like Bane, Cruel Hand, Soul Control and many others there. Maas commented, “The scope of this record is likely the biggest undertaking I’ve done for any band I’ve engineered. The combination of being in Defeater and recording Defeater is great – I feel like my talents as an engineer have developed to a very professional place, as have my skills as a songwriter.” Musically, Defeater’s new material will “…sound like Defeater. Like Lost Ground, we don’t want to be afraid of trying something new and writing something that ‘doesn’t sound like us’”, said Maas. Archaumbault continued, “Having Jay on board working on the record in addition to being in the band is great and gives us creative control over all facets of the record from start to finish. I’m already really happy with where we are at thus far in the writing and recording process and I can’t wait to announce the surprises we have in store for this album.”
With two releases already under their belt and tours across the globe with bands like Polar Bear Club, Comeback Kid and Make Do and Mend, 2011 is sure to be the biggest and best year in Defeater’s career thus far. And while something called "a new artistic peak for hardcore” (Punknews.org) and “the perfect definition of modern hardcore” (Lambgoat.com) will be hard to top, this second full-length effort is sure to do it. Look for this yet-to-be-titled album to hit shelves in early 2011 and stay tuned for upcoming tour announcements for Defeater in North America and abroad.

Propagandhi - Split-7" mit Sacrifice

Die kanadischen Polit-Punks Propagandhi werden beim ebenfalls in Winnipeg beheimateten Label War on Music Records eine Split-7" mit der kanadischen Thrash-Legende Sacrifice veröffentlichen. Dabei covern Sacrifice den Rush-Song "Anthem, während Propagandhi den Corrosion of Conformity-Klassiker "Technocracy" covern. Die Band schreibt dazu:
"So the minute we got back from Best Friends Day in Richmond, we put our noses to the grindstone and got to work on a recording for our side of a dream-come-true split 7″ with Canadian thrash legends Sacrifice!
Sacrifice recorded a crushing version of Rush‘s “Anthem” and we’re recording a cover of Corrosion of Conformity‘s 1987 opus “Technocracy”, which was one of the greatest and most outrageous entries into a genre that we used to call “crossover” back in the 80′s.
Capturing it’s essence is definitely one of the most challenging things we’ve ever faced as a band. I dare other bands to try it.
Hopefully it will get mastered and be off to the pressing plant this week. I’d love to have some copies to give to Corrosion of Conformity at Riot Fest in Chicago this October. Look for it from Winnipeg’s War On Music record label!"

Lamb Of God - Mark und Willie, und ihre neuen Boogies

Mark Morten und Willie Adler von Lamb Of God, haben neues Equipment bekommen. Der neue Mesa Boogie (Mark Five) mit mehr Gain Reserven. Und das wollen die beiden dann auch direkt einmal beweisen und haben im Interview während das "Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem" Festivals einen abgezogen. Planesmistakenforstars Reunion-Shows in Chicago und Gainesville

Die Post-Hardcore Band Planesmistakenforstars wird laut Ox-Fanzine demnächst zwei Reunion-Shows in Chicago und Gainesville spielen. Das Ox-Fanzine schreibt dazu:
"Zwei Jahre nach ihrer vermeintlichen Auflösung kündigen die amerikanischen Postcoreler PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS zwei „Reunion“-Shows in Chicago und Gainesville, Florida an, denen als Hauptauslöser eine Anfrage von No Idea Records-Eigentümer Var zu Grunde liegt.
Dieser feiert nämlich am 30. Oktober 2010 das bereits 25-jährige Bestehen seiner Firma und bat PMFS persönlich darum, auf dem dafür organisierten Festival aufzutreten.
Laut Sänger und Gitarrist Gared O’Donnell war die Band eigentlich nie wirklich komplett aufgelöst. Vielmehr handelte es sich um eine selbstauferlegte Pause, weil man sich des Gefühls nicht erwehren konnte, die Band bestimme mehr und mehr das Leben.
Mittlerweile vermisse man es jedoch, die Songs zu spielen und vor allem vermisse man sich untereinander als Band.
PMFS wollen auf jeden Fall die Songs spielen, an die sie sich erinnern können, was aber wohl nicht jene sein werden, die die Musiker im Alter von 19 Jahren schrieben, so O’Donnell weiter.
Bereits letztes Jahr im Oktober kam es zu einer Art Reunion, als während eines Auftritts von O’Donnells aktuellem Betätigungsfeld HAWKS & DOVES plötzlich PFMS-Bassist Chuck French mit seiner Band GIT SOME auf die Bühne trat und man dem erstaunten Publikum einige der alten Songs bot."
